Photo requirements

After you have completed your project, comes the last important moment – capturing your work. Remember that the photos you send will be your presentation to the jury and are as important as the item itself. Through them, the jurors will assess your skill level and the techniques used.

  • Photo taken from the right side of the work.
  • Photo taken from above the work.

Additional requirements for the “Children’s Birthday Cake” category.

ATTENTION!

  • Please do NOT send more than the specified number of photos!
  • Photos sent must NOT have a name or logo written on them. When submitting such photos, the participation will not be evaluated by the jury.
  • We recommend that you shoot photos of your sugar works in a neutral background and daylight

Photos processed with programs such as Photoshop, Photo Room, etc. will NOT be evaluated by the jury!

The organizers reserve the right to suspend registration for a particular category, provided that the limit for participation in it is met.

EVALUATION

The evaluation of the sugar works will be performed by an international jury, whose members are reputable professionals, winners of multiple awards in prestigious competitions, or juries of such. Each category will be evaluated by specialists in that field.

Criteria for evaluation by points:

  • Composition and originality – 30 points
  • Precision of work, attention to detail, and degree of difficulty – 40 points
  • Proportions, colors, and overall vision -30 points

The evaluation result is the arithmetic mean of the sum of the judges’ evaluations in each category.

ATTENTION!

  • A mandatory condition is that the work with which you present yourself at the competition must be YOURS, THE PARTICIPANT.
  • You are not allowed to participate with a copy of a model, the work of another author.
  • If a similarity with someone else’s cake or a previous participation with the same model in another competition is found, the contestant will be DISQUALIFIED.

The decision of the judges is final and the results cannot be disputed!

Please do not directly contact the judges with questions about your participation in Cake Art Bulgaria. If you have any questions or inquiries, please write to cakeartbulgaria@gmail.com. We will be happy to provide information.

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Read carefully and repeatedly the requirements of the category you are going to register for. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to write to us at cakeartbulgaria@gmail.com or on the Facebook page of the competition.
  • Start working on your project as early as possible. Don’t wait for the last days, because you risk running out of time and not being able to do everything you set out to do.
  • Work cleanly and precisely. Avoid visible traces of fingerprints, glue, pencil outlines, tool marks on your work. This can affect its overall grade. An original idea but poor execution can result in lower points in your project evaluation.
  • Follow the size limits for each category carefully.
  • The use of silicone molds, pastry laces, prints on fondant or waffle paper is permissible, but such decorations are accepted by the jury as facilitating the work and are therefore grounds for deducting points.
  • Avoid popular, classic designs for your cake model. Aim for your work to create a “Wow Effect”. In any competition, the original and the new ideas are always valued better than the traditional. Do not copy someone else’s work. The jury and other participants also use the Internet and the probability that they have seen it is high.
  • Attention! The jury’s evaluation is based on the photos you send, so take your time and pau attention to the pictures. They should be clear, in focus, preferably taken professionally or in natural daylight. We recommend using a background that will make your artwork stand out even more. Avoid photos against direct light and windows, against curtains, kitchen counters or tables. Submit the number of photos mentioned in the regulation without a logo or name on them.
  • Do not remove the background of your photos using photo programs such as Photo Room, RemoveBG, etc. Photo processing with Photoshop is prohibited.
  • Take more photos, but send as many as are required of you. The jury reserves the right to request additional photos from you, so it is good not to spoil your project and keep it until the ranking is announced.
  • The project with which you enter the competition cannot be your previous entry in another competition and must not have been published on the Internet before the competition.
  • Sugar works must be yours. Copying or blatant imitation of other decorators’ work will cause your work to be disqualified.
  • Photos of the sugar works with which you participate in Cake Art Bulgaria must not be published on Internet sites or in social media before the announcement of the ranking – May 24, 2025. If this is found, your work will be excluded from evaluation and awarding.
